Luis Casco
Bio
Luis was born in San Salvador, El Salvador and was nurtured from an early age to appreciate the beauty that surrounded his exotic birthplace. The child of a diplomat and socialite mother, Luis had regular exposure to some of the most glamorous and interesting people in the world. In 1975, Luis' father served as a judge at the Miss Universe pageant. The event helped to propel Luis' interest in beauty and fashion and exposed him to the idea that beauty can come in all colors and ethnicities.
His title as makeup artist came early, when as a young man, Luis would transform friends and family with makeup. Toting a Polaroid camera, he was doing before-and-after shots long before they were in vogue.
At the age of fourteen, Luis' family moved to the United States, first to Miami and in 1985 to Houston, Texas. In Houston, Luis graduated from high school and attended the University of Houston.
Wanting to pursue his dream of being in the fashion world, Luis became a contributor to the Houston Chronicle Fashion section. During his tenure with the Chronicle, Luis was in charge of all fashion photo shoots and attended the fashion collections with then editor Linda Griffin. It was in Paris that Luis fell in love not only with the city but all things dealing with high fashion.
In the early 90's Luis moved to Paris to further his fashion career and dreams. Starting out doing test shoots with fashion photographers Luis tried his hands at all aspects of fashion. From fashion styling to hair and makeup, Luis tried it all. But it was through his work as a makeup artist that he found his calling.
In the beginning of his career in Paris, Luis assisted some of the worlds most famous makeup artists including Stephane Marais, Fulvia Farolfi and Tyen.
He then pursued work on Haute Couture and prĂȘt-a-porter fashion shows. He was fortunate enough to work for some of the most important designers showing in Paris including Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel and Yves Saint Laurent.
With his experience and growing reputation, Luis took his work to markets around the world including Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia and Hong Kong. These markets helped to build his portfolio and solidify his reputation.
Back in the states, Luis moved to New York where he continued his career working at fashion shows for designers including Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Randolph Duke, Halston, Donna Karan and Vera Wang.
In New York, Luis started his collaboration with cosmetic companies. His first collaboration was with Revlon. Luis was hired to work on advertising campaigns as well as making appearances on television and a series of personal appearance tours with Daisy Fuentes.
Since then Luis has acted as a professional makeup consultant and international spokesperson for different cosmetic companies. His duties have included television appearances, product development consultations, PR events, creating special makeup collections and speaking to large groups of women all over the world through videos and personal appearances.
In 2000, Luis moved to Los Angeles. Since then he has worked with some of the worlds biggest celebrities and fashion models. The A-list people Luis has worked with include, Cameron Diaz, Heidi Klum, Milla Jovovich, Charlize Theron and Christy Turlington and Hollywood luminaries like Helen Mirren, Blythe Danner and Tina Fey.
Staying true to his Hispanic roots, Luis has also worked with many latin celebrities including Luis Miguel, Roselyn Sanchez, Dayanara Torres, Kate del Castillo and Paulina Rubio.
No stranger to the media Luis has appeared on tv shows as a beauty expert on both the English and Spanish language networks. Guest appearances include Good Morning America, MTV, CNN International, "E", "Style" network and The Tyra Banks Show. In Spanish he is a regular guest for different shows on both Univision and Telemundo network. Shows like Despierta America and Levantate regularly feature Luis offering makeup tips to their large viewing audience.
Luis' editorial work has appeared in fashion magazines like Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Vogue, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Latina and Madmoiselle. He has worked with photographers like Annie Leibowitz, Victor Skrebnesky, Timothy White, Geoff Kern, Pepe Botella, Robert Jaso, Michael Leis and Steven White.
These days, Luis spends time as a contributing beauty editor to many magazines and is quoted regularly in publications all over the world like People, People en Espanol, Glamour en Espanol, Cosmopolitan, Harpers Bazaar en Espanol, Vanidades and Madmoiselle.
